The key to improving image clarity is to improve the light-sensing capabilities of your security camera.

In modern security camera system technology, one of the keys to improving image quality is to improve the light-sensitive ability of the security camera. The role of the light-sensitive element is very important. Currently, mainstream security cameras use CCD elements, which are essentially photoelectric conversion elements. Compared with the former CMOS light-sensitive elements, the light sensitivity of CCD is three to ten times that of CMOS, so the CCD chip can receive more light signals. These light signals are converted into electrical signals, filtered and amplified through video processing circuits, and finally output as video signals. The stronger the light signal, the higher the amplitude of the video signal. The video image can be displayed by connecting the video signal to the video input of a monitor or television. Therefore, improving the light-sensitive ability of the camera is the fundamental factor in improving the clarity of the image.

The configuration of the lens and the CCD photosensitive element also plays an important role in image quality. The image formed by the CCD sensor is usually smaller than the original image. Different sizes of CCD chips form images of different sizes. CCD image sizes generally have specifications such as 1/2 inch and 1/3 inch. These specifications determine the performance of the security camera.

In addition, there are also lens specifications such as 1/2 inch, 1/3 inch, etc., and a 1/2 inch lens can be used for 1/2 inch and 1/3 inch cameras, but a 1/3 inch lens can only be used for 1/3 inch cameras. This is because the light output of a 1/3 inch lens is only 44% of that of a 1/2 inch lens, which cannot meet the light output requirements of a 1/2 inch camera.

Determining the proper focal length is a key factor in determining image quality. The choice of focal length depends on the CCD image size, the size of the object being observed, and the distance. When observing with a 1/3 inch CCD camera, assume the object being observed is 500mm wide, 400mm high, and 5000mm away from the lens. The focal length can be calculated using the following formula: focal length f = 4.8 × 5000/500 ≈ 48mm or focal length f = 3.6 × 5000/400 ≈ 45mm.
